Wheat allergies are one of the eight most common food allergies. They strike mostly at children and very rarely when one is an adult. Their allergic responses are immediate and in a few cases delayed up to a couple of hours. Like in any other allergic response, in wheat allergies the body’s immune system responds with Ig E, and histamines to the wheat’s’ proteins.
Wheat allergies are common among occupational workers who inhale the pollen from the wheat fields, causing respiratory allergies. Wheat allergies are different from gluten allergy and celiac disease.
Wheat allergy symptoms are generally mild and very rare cases of anaphylaxis have been reported. Symptoms like skin rashes, eczema, digestive problems and nasal congestion occur.
The allergist does treatment and diagnosis for this allergy with medications like epinephrine in case of anaphylaxis and antihistamines and inhalers in case of respiratory disorders. An allergy test can be done. Avoiding the allergen is the best preventive measure. Nowadays wheat free products are available. A whole list is put up at various websites related to allergies.
Whey allergy is nothing but milk allergy. Casein and whey are proteins found in milk. Whey is the watery portion of curds.
